Construction on a new passenger terminal at Tetouan’s Sania Ramel Airport began on Friday, February 23, 2024. The project is part of a broader effort to modernize infrastructure in northern Morocco in anticipation of several major events that the country will host in the coming years.
The new terminal is the latest in a series of upgrades at Sania Ramel Airport, which recently saw the completion of runway expansion and realignment work to accommodate larger aircraft. In recent months, the airport has begun receiving international flights.
Several international airlines have also launched new routes between Tetouan and other international airports.
Morocco is working to ensure that Tetouan Airport is ready to handle flights from around the world in anticipation of major sporting events, including the 2025 African Cup of Nations and the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which Morocco is bidding to host.
