Marrakech – Cooperation between Morocco and Malawi in the field of water was the focus of discussions on Thursday in Marrakech between Morocco’s Minister of Equipment and Water Nizar Baraka, and the Principal Secretary for Water Development at the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Water Development of Malawi, Henrie Manford Njoloma.
Held on the sidelines of the 19th World Water Congress, this meeting focused in particular on cooperation in water sector planning, sanitation, groundwater monitoring, watershed management, and climate resilience.
The meeting also highlighted the joint development of large dams, water loss reduction, sustainable water management through renewable energy, energy efficiency improvements, and the digitization of public services.
The two parties also discussed capacity building, notably through a structured exchange and training program, expert missions to Malawi, joint certification programs, and specialized training in hydrology, water quality, sanitation, and public service management.
In a statement to the press following the meeting, Njoloma expressed his country’s willingness to strengthen cooperation with Morocco in this strategic area.
