Rabat – Morocco is a model to follow in the field of agriculture and agro-industry, Senegal’s Minister of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Livestock, Mabouba Diagne, stated on Monday in Rabat.
In a press statement following talks with Morocco’s Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forests, Ahmed El Bouari, Diagne praised the Kingdom’s remarkable achievements in agriculture, livestock, horticulture and agro-industry, highlighting the full range of agricultural value chains developed by Morocco.
“The Kingdom of Morocco has established itself as a benchmark model in this field, and its successful experience represents a valuable source of cooperation and knowledge-sharing across all value chains in these sectors,” he said.
In this regard, Diagne noted that his country imports more than USD 1.6 billion worth of food products every year, considering these needs to represent a major opportunity for cooperation.
He therefore called on the Moroccan private sector to invest in Senegal, highlighting the availability of water resources and vast arable land.
“In partnership with the Senegalese private sector, we are working to build and develop national production in Senegal in order to ensure food security for our populations and contribute to their well-being,” he noted, recalling the presence of Moroccan banks in Senegal, which are capable of supporting industrial players in their projects.
For his part, Bouari expressed Morocco’s commitment to supporting Senegal’s agricultural development, affirming the Kingdom’s willingness to share its expertise to help develop Senegalese agriculture.
“In a spirit of partnership and complementarity, the two countries will be able to jointly develop their agricultural sectors,” Bouari said in a similar statement.
This meeting took place as part of a working visit to the Kingdom, on the occasion of the 15th session of the Morocco–Senegal High Joint Partnership Commission.
