Morocco, Russia Discuss Expanding Civil Aviation and Road Transport Ties

Aljiha Post

Istanbul – Morocco and Russia held talks on Saturday aimed at deepening cooperation in civil aviation and road transport, as part of the Global Transport Connectivity Forum underway in Istanbul.

Moroccan Minister of Transport and Logistics Abdessamad Kayouh met with Russian Deputy Transport Minister Dmitry Zverev to explore ways to strengthen bilateral ties in the sector. Discussions focused on increasing the frequency of direct air links between Morocco and Moscow, with the goal of making the route a daily service amid growing demand from Moroccan and African travelers.

Kayouh said both sides also examined the possibility of signing a memorandum of understanding to boost collaboration in road, rail, and maritime transport. He emphasized the importance of reinforcing ties between the two countries, citing their long-standing political and economic relationship.

For his part, Zverev welcomed the progress achieved and noted that Russia views Morocco as a strategic partner in the region.

He also highlighted interest in expanding the geographical coverage of air links and further cooperation in ground transport.

Morocco is participating in the three-day forum (June 27–29) with a delegation led by Kayouh, joined by Moroccan Ambassador to Türkiye Mohamed Ali Lazrak and senior officials from the transport and road safety sectors. The event brings together global policymakers and industry leaders to discuss strategies for developing international transport corridors.
