Morocco Showcases Educational Agriculture Project at FAO World Food Forum

Aljiha Post

Rome – At the World Food Forum in Rome on Tuesday, Morocco showcased an educational project by students from LM6E Benguerir, centered on sustainable farming in semi-arid regions.

This ambitious initiative, named the “Global Youth Challenge,” offers an educational and scientific immersion where students from LM6E Benguerir are introduced to sustainable farming practices under the guidance of their teachers and experts from UM6P University.

The young Moroccan participants actively engaged in managing a teaching farm and implementing an integrated “From Seed to Feed” model, covering all stages of the agricultural value chain — including soil analysis, water management, responsible fertilization, and product development.

The project also includes awareness-raising activities on climate change, the preservation of natural resources, and the promotion of agricultural careers as promising paths for the future.

Supported by the OCP Foundation, in partnership with OCP North America, the Association for the Promotion of Excellence in Education (APEE), LM6E in Benguerir, and Canadian organizations, this project reflects the Kingdom’s commitment to placing youth at the heart of global agricultural and food system transitions.

Speaking during the panel presenting the project, Morocco’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN agencies in Rome, Abdellah Larhmaid, said that the contribution of students from the Mohammed VI High School of Excellence in Benguerir — the youngest participants at the WFF — illustrates the driving role of youth, particularly Moroccan youth, in the future of food systems.

“This Moroccan participation reflects a strong commitment to promoting agricultural education that is scientific, inclusive, and practice-oriented, in line with national priorities and the Sustainable Development Goals,” he noted.

Launched by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the World Food Forum brings together youth, scientists, policymakers, and private sector stakeholders each year, with the aim of accelerating the transformation of food systems on a global scale.
