Morocco’s Economy Minister Calls for Greater African Cooperation to Build Resilient Pension Systems

Aljiha Post

Marrakesh – Morocco’s Minister of Economy and Finance Nadia Fettah called for greater cooperation between African countries to build more resilient, supportive pension systems at the service of human development.

In a video address at the opening of the 6th annual Africa Pension Supervisors Association Conference, Fettah emphasized that pooling expertise, adapting regulatory frameworks and investing in solutions rooted in local realities would help build a sustainable African pension architecture.

In this respect, she recalled that, under the impetus of HM King Mohammed VI, Morocco has placed social protection and human capital at the heart of its development agenda, putting in place a roadmap to extend pension coverage to five million uncovered Moroccans, while reforming existing schemes, both public and private.

The government official stressed the need for African countries to develop their own responses, adapted to their specific economic, social and demographic circumstances, believing that “Africa today has a wide field of action to design innovative, integrated models adapted to its realities, based on modern, connected governance”.

The conference brings together heads of supervision authorities from several African countries, representatives of international organizations, institutions and industry experts.
