Morocco’s Flag Carrier Launches New Casablanca-Catania Direct Flight Route

Aljiha Post

Casablanca – Morocco’s flag carrier, Royal Air Maroc (RAM) announced on Monday the launch of a new direct flight route connecting Casablanca to Catania (Sicily) in Italy, starting from June 28, 2025.

“This new service will operate twice a week, on Mondays and Saturdays, using Boeing 737 aircraft. Flights will depart from Casablanca at 3:20 p.m. local time and arrive in Catania at 7:40 p.m. local time. Return flights will leave Catania at 8:40 p.m. local time and land in Casablanca at 11:35 p.m. local time,” RAM said in a statement.

With the launch of the Casablanca-Catania route, Royal Air Maroc expands its network in Italy, increasing to seven the number of Italian cities served from Casablanca, alongside Milan, Rome, Bologna, Turin, Venice and Naples.

The new service aims to meet the growing demand from a diverse clientele, including Moroccans and African diasporas living in Italy, Italian tourists seeking to explore Morocco’s cultural and seaside attractions, and passengers connecting via Royal Air Maroc’s Casablanca hub to other international destinations.

“The launch of the Casablanca-Catania route marks a key milestone in our development strategy and reflects our ambition to strengthen our presence in Italy, particularly in the south of the country. This new service meets the expectations of our citizens residing in Sicily and opens up new opportunities for African and Italian travelers,” said Hamid Addou, Chairman and CEO of Royal Air Maroc, as quoted in the statement.

He added: “Beyond strengthening tourism flows between Italy and Morocco, this new route will address the increasing demand for connectivity, while offering an enhanced onboard experience aligned with our continuous improvement objectives for customer service. Finally, the Casablanca-Catania line is part of a broader set of new routes to be launched in the short term, aimed at facilitating travel for Moroccans abroad, especially to Casablanca and various airports in northern Morocco.”

With 45 weekly frequencies scheduled to Italy, Royal Air Maroc reaffirmed its commitment to offering flexible, optimal travel solutions tailored to the needs of its passengers, particularly the Moroccan and African diasporas based in Italy.

The new service also underscores the airline’s commitment to strengthening its presence in the Italian market and to reinforcing Casablanca’s role as a strategic hub between Europe and Africa.
