Morocco’s Tangier-Med joined the Global Top 20 Container Ports, according to the latest ranking published by the maritime data provider Alphaliner.

Tangier-Med port climbed three places in this ranking, now coming 19th out of 500 container ports in the world, according to the ranking of France-based Alphaliner.

Thus, the Kingdom has joined the restricted club of 12 other countries appearing in this Global Top 20, alongside China, Singapore, Korea, America, Hong Kong, the United Arab Emirates, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Belgium, Thailand, Taiwan and Vietnam. It becomes the first African country to join this Global Top 20.

In 2023, Tangier-Med, whose integration into the Global Top 20 was planned for 2027, surpassed important ports, such as New York and Hamburg, ranked respectively 21st and 22nd globally.

In 2023, Tangier-Med experienced the 2nd best annual percentage evolution in this Global Top 20, with an increase of +13.4%, after Qingdao (16.9%), according to the Alphaliner ranking.
