The city of Tangier hosted the closing ceremony of the first edition of the National Fibre Optic Caravan, an initiative led by telecom operator Inwi to accelerate the digital transformation of the construction and real estate sectors.
The event brought together property developers, architects, institutional representatives, and telecommunications experts to discuss how Morocco’s future urban projects can keep pace with the digital economy.
A New Regulatory Framework to Support and Modernise Investment
Central to the discussions was a technical and economic reading of the new draft specifications governing telecommunications infrastructure in newly built properties.
This regulatory framework aims to mandate the systematic integration of fibre optic networks in residential and commercial projects to ensure high-speed connectivity, improve service quality, and enhance the market value of real estate developments.
According to professionals, the generalisation of fibre optics will strengthen the classification of housing projects, reduce long-term maintenance costs, and increase the attractiveness of Moroccan cities—particularly as competition intensifies between major urban hubs.
Three Strategic Agreements to Stimulate the Real Estate Market
On the sidelines of the event, three structural agreements were signed, reflecting a clear willingness to strengthen multi-stakeholder collaboration:
Al Omrane Group – Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima Region: to accelerate the integration of fibre optics into future housing projects and support the development of fully connected smart districts.
National Union of Property Developers: to launch specialised training programmes on best practices for deploying digital infrastructure in construction sites.
Tangier Architects’ Association: to support architectural firms in integrating connectivity solutions during the design phase, thereby improving project quality and increasing market value.
These agreements mark a significant milestone in modernising the sector and confirming fibre optics as a key lever for innovation.
Digitalising the Construction Sector: A National Economic Priority
Organisers emphasised that the deployment of digital infrastructure is no longer merely a technical enhancement but an economic necessity.
High-speed connectivity is becoming central to emerging services such as:
smart home technologies,
energy-efficient management systems,
cybersecurity and smart monitoring,
remote surveillance and automated control.
This initiative is aligned with the objectives of “Morocco Digital 2030”, which aims to equip the country with high-capacity networks to support innovation, stimulate productive investment, and position Moroccan companies competitively in the global digital economy.
Towards Smarter and More Competitive Moroccan Cities
The conclusions of the national tour highlight that integrating fibre optics into new construction projects is essential for building smart, resilient, and future-ready cities.
By hosting this closing event, Tangier reinforces its position as a leading digital hub in Morocco. The National Fibre Optic Caravan stands as a model of effective cooperation between public and private actors working toward a modern and competitive digital infrastructure.
