Ferry service between the Moroccan port of Tangier City and the Spanish port of Tarifa has resumed after a 24-hour suspension due to strong winds in the Strait of Gibraltar.
The suspension began at 10:00 AM on Friday, March 22nd, and lasted until 9:00 AM on Saturday, March 23rd. The high winds made it unsafe for ferries to operate, disrupting the movement of passengers and goods between the two cities.
The Port of Tarifa announced on its social media pages that it had reopened to maritime traffic with the Port of Tangier at around 7:00 AM on Saturday. Ferries have now resumed their regular schedules.
The direct ferry line between Tangier and Tarifa plays a vital role in the movement of passengers and goods, and its suspension can cause significant financial losses for the ports and companies that operate it.
It is worth noting that ferry service between the Port of Tangier City and the Port of Algeciras was not affected by the storms, as the larger ships that operate between these ports are able to make their journeys even in rough weather.
