Under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the Halieutis Fair is set to return for its 7th edition in the city of Agadir, taking place from February 6 to 9, 2025. This year’s event will revolve around the theme: “Research and Innovation for a Sustainable Fishing Sector.”
An International Event Hosting Over 50 Countries
The fair will be held at the Agadir Exhibition Center, spanning an impressive 20,000 square meters. It will feature 450 exhibitors from more than 50 countries, including four nations participating for the first time: South Korea, the United Kingdom, India, and the Sultanate of Oman. Organizers expect over 50,000 visitors, with the fair opening to the general public on February 8 and 9, 2025.
Key Focus Areas of the 2025 Edition
The event will spotlight six strategic segments:
- Fleet & Equipment: Showcasing the latest innovations in sustainable fishing technologies.
- Value Chain & Processing: Solutions to enhance the value chain of seafood products.
- Innovation: Highlighting emerging technologies and trends in the fishing sector.
- Institutional Engagement: Involving public and semi-public actors for strategic development.
- International Cooperation: Opportunities for global partnerships and collaborations.
- Sustainability: Promoting initiatives for responsible and sustainable fishing practices.
Economic Importance of the Fishing Sector
During her visit to the exhibition site on January 10, 2025, Zakia Driouich, Secretary of State in charge of Maritime Fisheries, emphasized the fishing sector’s significant role in Morocco’s economy. The sector contributes around 1.1% of the national GDP, with a production of approximately 1.42 million tons in 2024, valued at 16.2 billion MAD. Exports of seafood products generated revenues of 27.4 billion MAD in the same year, creating over 261,000 direct jobs, including 113,845 sea-based jobs.
Morocco: A Leader in Africa’s Blue Economy
Morocco is committed to playing a pivotal role in the development of the blue economy in Africa. Through initiatives like the Africa Ocean Week, the Kingdom aims to unify African strategies around sustainable and inclusive blue economy practices. The event brings together ministers, international experts, and donors to prepare for the United Nations Ocean Summit in June 2025 in Nice, France.
