Rabat – Morocco and Chile expressed their shared commitment on Tuesday in Rabat to bolstering economic and trade relations, building on complementary economies and opportunities available in several strategic sectors.
During a meeting between Secretary of State for Foreign Trade Omar Hejira and Chile’s Deputy Minister of Commerce Paula Estévez, the two sides discussed prospects for cooperation in areas of trade and investment.
On this occasion, the two sides examined in particular partnership opportunities in the sectors of agriculture, mining, renewable energy, and port infrastructure, as well as prospects for strengthening trade between economic operators in both countries.
In a statement to the press following the meeting, Estévez stated that an action plan had been agreed upon to boost trade between the two countries and give new impetus to bilateral cooperation.
She noted that this visit, led by a delegation of some thirty Chilean companies, aims to explore new partnership opportunities with Moroccan businesses.
The official added that B2B business meetings are planned between companies from both countries, noting that Chile serves as a gateway to Latin America, while Morocco serves as a platform for access to the African continent.
For his part, Hejira noted that this meeting forms part of the implementation of the Royal High Guidelines, which call for the diversification of the Kingdom’s partnerships and their expansion across all continents.
He explained that discussions with the Chilean delegation provided an opportunity to review the state of trade between the two countries, emphasizing that this trade holds significant potential given the political and diplomatic ties between Morocco and Chile.
He further noted that the business forum planned between the private sectors of the two countries is an opportunity to identify new avenues for cooperation and to leverage existing export potential.
