Rabat – Morocco has reaffirmed the strength of its tourism sector, with the National Moroccan Tourism Office (ONMT) highlighting another period of sustained growth during its Board of Directors meeting held on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, in Rabat.

The meeting was chaired by Minister of Tourism, Handicrafts, and Social and Solidarity Economy, Fatim-Zahra Ammor, in the presence of ONMT Director General Achraf Fayda.

Board members welcomed the sector’s continued positive performance following a record-breaking 2025, when Morocco welcomed nearly 20 million tourists and generated MAD 138 billion in tourism revenues.

The first five months of 2026 have confirmed this upward trend. By the end of May, international tourist arrivals had increased by 7%, tourism receipts had surged by 21%, and overnight stays in classified accommodation establishments had risen by 9% compared to the same period last year.

Speaking during the meeting, Minister Fatim-Zahra Ammor emphasized that Morocco’s 2023–2026 Tourism Roadmap has proven highly effective by simultaneously strengthening air connectivity, destination promotion, investment, service quality, and regional tourism development.

“The roadmap has demonstrated that by acting on all these strategic pillars simultaneously, Morocco can compete with the world’s best-performing tourist destinations,” she said.

The Board also praised the significant progress made in air connectivity. Contracted airline capacity for the Summer 2026 season has reached 7.74 million seats, representing a 13% increase over the previous year. This expansion has been driven by the opening of new airline bases in Rabat, Marrakech, and Tetouan, alongside the launch of 52 new international routes during the first half of 2026.

Looking ahead, the Board reviewed several strategic initiatives designed to help Morocco achieve its ambitious target of welcoming 26 million tourists by 2030. These priorities include expanding international air connectivity, diversifying source markets—particularly in China, India, and Latin America—developing maritime tourism and cruise activities, and progressively integrating artificial intelligence into the country’s tourism marketing and commercial strategies.

Board members also examined key institutional reforms, notably the modernization of ONMT’s human resources framework, a strategic project aimed at strengthening the organization’s efficiency and supporting its long-term transformation.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Board unanimously approved all agenda items, including the 2025 financial statements, the annual activity report, the first-half 2026 performance review, the action plan for the second half of the year, and the strategic projects presented by the Directorate General.

With these achievements, ONMT reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Morocco’s tourism growth while contributing to the Kingdom’s broader vision of positioning itself among the world’s leading tourism destinations by 2030.
