Rabat – Morocco’s expressway network now spans around 2,177 km, Minister of Equipment and Water Nizar Baraka announced at Lower House’s question time.
Key ongoing projects include the Tiznit-Dakhla and Fès-Taounate expressways, as well as links to Nador West Med port. Other developments involve the Tetouan-Chefchaouen, Marrakech-Safi, and Marrakech-Kelaâ Sraghna routes, alongside a feasibility study in Drâa-Tafilalet, Baraka pointed out.
He then highlighted ongoing upgrades to national, regional, and provincial roads and noted the highway network has reached 1,800 km. A new program with Moroccan National Highways Authority (ADM) is also being developed for 2030.
Major projects spearheaded by the ministry include tripling lanes on Casablanca-Berrechid and its bypass, Tit Mellil-Berrechid highway (30 km), Rabat-Casablanca continental highway (59 km, operational by 2029) as well as Guercif-Nador highway (104 km, MAD 7.9 billion investment).
In preparation for the 2030 World Cup, 30 cities will see major road upgrades, the minister stated, highlighting that around MAD 3 billion are spent annually on road maintenance and infrastructure safety.
